Your Smooch wedding ring is a symbol of your everlasting love for each other and will be a permanent reminder of your special day. The information below is designed to help you make the perfect choice.

All our precious metals are fully hallmarked by one of the four UK Assay Offices. This is your guarantee of purity.

Your Smooch Rings are guaranteed for life. Should any fault occur, due to the manufacturing process or materials, we will put it right free of charge. In addition we will repolish or resize your ring at any time you require it.

In the unlikely event that a diamond is lost from your ring we will replace it without question.

Yellow Gold

Gold is a yellow metallic element, but in its pure form it is too soft to be used for general jewellery purposes.  Therefore, most gold jewellery needs to be alloyed with other metals to provide the best combination of strength, appearance, and resistance to tarnishing.

24 Carat
Pure, rich, 100% gold.  Too soft to be used in jewellery

22 Carat
Our most luxurious jewellery gold - high quality with a wonderful colour, 22 carat contains 91.7% pure gold.

18 Carat Yellow Gold 
75.0% pure gold has a gorgeous colour and is the most popular choice for women. Perfect for setting diamonds

14 Carat Yellow Gold
Containing 58.3% gold, 14 carat is slightly harder than 18 carat but with a higher gold content than 9 carat

9 Carat Yellow Gold
Containing 37.5% pure gold, 9 carat gold is more scratch resistant and hard wearing but still has a beautiful colour and lustre.

White Gold

White gold is an alloy of yellow gold and other metals which give it a whiter appearance. Palladium is ideal as a constituent of "white gold" alloys, a rare silver white transition metal and close relative of platinum. Although many high street jewellers use a lower quality alloy, all of our 18 carat white gold rings have a high proportion of palladium which makes them resistant to yellowing.

9 carat white gold may lose its whiteness faster than 18 carat but if your Smooch White Gold ring shows any signs of yellowing we'll restore it to its original pure white colour free of charge.

Rhodium Plating

Rhodium is an extremely bright and highly reflective element. It is common practise to rhodium plate all white gold jewellery and even some platinum to produce a very white, highly polished finish.

If the rhodium plating wears through, the colour of the actual "white" alloy can be seen. 

On some low cost jewellery, yellow gold alloys are rhodium plated.  When the plating wears out, the natural yellow colour of the alloy appears. This is not the case with Smooch Rings

Titanium

Mixed with other precious metals, titanium creates stunning designs, textures and colours. This highly durable metal also boasts the following:

• As strong as steel, but much lighter
• Twice as strong as aluminium
• Hypoallergenic qualities - used in hip joint replacements
• Found in the meteorites, the sun, the stars, the moon, earth's crust and even human bodies
• Used to produce alloys for aerospace, marine craft and other industries

Platinum

Platinum is a wonderful and popular choice of metal for wedding rings.  If you prefer white coloured rings, then platinum is the perfect choice for you.

Platinum is naturally "white" (silvery grey), and is extremely strong and hard-wearing.  In addition, it never discolours or tarnishes and with a low "spring-back" rate makes it ideal for stone settings.

Platinum wedding rings are made from a solid piece of 950 platinum, without any joins.  They are stamped out of a solid sheet of metal and hammered into a "blank" wedding ring shape.

Several processes then follow, the rings are polished, diamond cut, hammered, hand engraved, or sandblasted, creating unique and stunning designs.

Palladium

Thanks to sophisticated new alloying methods we are pleased to offer palladium as a new stand-alone metal for all our rings.

This rare transition metal is a close relative of platinum and is naturally white in colour.  It does not need to be Rhodium plated and there are no difficulties with sizing or diamond setting, making it an increasingly popular choice.  Like Platinum, Palladium is hypoallergenic and is ideal for setting diamonds or being engraved. As with Platinum our palladium is hall-marked by the UK Official Assay Offices

Sizing Advice

One of the most crucial aspects of buying any wedding ring is ensuring it fits correctly. Stating the obvious? On average people in the UK wear their rings two sizes too large, so perhaps not.

Help is at hand; our team of dedicated experts are here to assist you in the comfort of your own home, ensuring Smooch well and truly breaks the mould. Your finger can change by up to one full size during an average day - temperature, your state of health, physical work and many other factors can influence the size. Our Advisors are trained to find the perfect fit which will allow for the variations you may experience.

If, at any time, you need to have the size adjusted we'll do it free of charge. All you pay is the special delivery postage to get your ring back to our workshop

Matt or Polished

All of our wedding rings are available with a matt or polished finish. Inevitably, with age comes wear and tear. Wedding rings with a matt finish will become shinier with wear, whilst small scratches will appear on a polished finish.

Here at Smooch we give you peace of mind. We will restore the original finish of your ring at any time, free of charge.
